Dragons


In the story the students are illustrating for the SK picture book, there is a scene with a dragon, so I took the opportunity to explore the mythical creature. They used an oil crayon relief technique where they drew lines, patterns, and textures first with chalk, then drew with the oil crayons in every area except where the chalk was. Then they applied black watercolor over the image.
















Here is a recently finished crayon resist drawing.


When the students finish whatever we are exploring together as a class, they often have ideas of their own that they want to express. Here are some random pieces using the materials at hand.
