House of Flowers, House of Stars - Adding Color

The students made a second print on colored paper and then applied color with oil crayon and pastel. The results are stunning! I've asked many children to invite me to tea in their amazing houses that represent themselves.

I wrote down comments that the students made about their houses:

"It's a house that has two stained glass windows, and a window on the door that the kids like to peek through to see if their friends are coming."

"The messiest man in the world lives in this house, as you can see!"

"My house is a house of many colors.

"It's a regular house, and it has solar panels on the roof, and it's a really green house. It has a lot of plants."

"It's the house of galactic energy. It's alive itself, and it tends to produce energy, and it likes to move around blowing stuff up. It has a reputation for creating portals."

"This is a house of imagination. It's where colors which mix with other colors live, and lines which squiggle also live here."

"It's an underwater house, and it was built under water, and it needs a way to get air. So it has two little things that suck up water. And it takes air out of the water and shoots the excess water out of a thing like a chimney."

"It's a robot house. Robots control it. They go wherever they want. The house can move from place to place."

"My house is a sun house that always faces the sun."

"My house is a simple cottage in the woods, and once there was a little girl who lived in it. And she wanted a bigger house so she left the house."

"My house rotted, so now it's not very pretty and the sun is in a dark color and vision of white and blue hit the house."

"My house is made of flowers. The windows are made of dried flowers. The door is made of roses and the pictures are made of heart shaped roses."

"It's a house on stilts that's made of bricks and it's all different colors too, and it has a wooden door. Smoke comes out the chimney."

"It's a metal house with a secret book shelf inside that leads to a lab."

"It's a tower house. A very tall person lives there. It's bigger than mountains."

"It's the House of Bubbles and whenever the bubbles collide as paint bubbles, the colors mix. They are all shades of blue."

"So, my house is a floating house but the mail box is attached to a string. This is a little place where you can parachute down and get the mail. This is a key to the house and there's a balcony here and the star window is in the observatory and you can see the stars."
