Ella's mother, Amy Kulper, who teaches architecture at UM came into the art room to create a wonderful experience for the students. In her own words she sums up her presentation:
"I came in last Thursday to Tracy's class and told the children about Etienne de Silhouette and his amazing 17th century machine. We mocked one up with a photography lamp and a role of paper and the children drew each other's silhouettes. We then talked about skylines and urban silhouettes, and the kids were amazingly able to identify all 14 of the silhouetted buildings I showed them including the Sydney Opera House, the Taj Mahal, the Coliseum, and some other less well known projects - it was really amazing how much they already knew about architecture. I talked with them about the difference between urban fabric and object buildings, and each child produced two silhouettes (white line on black paper) - one fabric and one object building."
The children learned so much and loved the experience. Next week they will visit the UM Fab Lab for a field trip with Amy and I will update the site after that happens!
Thank you, Amy!!!
