I ordered styrofoam from Dick Blick and had the first through fourth graders draw into it to create a plate for inking and printing. Again they looked carefully at the the lines and shapes of their faces in the mirror, and rather than drawing preconceived images of what they think a human looks like, they created sensitive, observant, meaningful self portraits. Each child made three prints, and drew with colored pencils into one of them. I plan to hang these prints up in the halls and every student should be represented!
