Inspiration from the Field Trip to the UMMA


While looking at a Julian Schnabel painting, a first grade student commented to me, "This art makes me realize we don't always have to paint or draw on white paper!" His observation led me to cut random pieces of newspaper rectangles and let the students draw in any way they wanted using oil crayon. They loved this activity and the results are quite intriguing. Sometimes they used the imagery from the newspaper as part of their new image, and sometimes they drew right over the marks on their paper.





























This truly was a day of creative exploration:
