Explorers

Each student made a sketchbook and the first entry inside was exploration of patterns, both from nature and man made. The purpose behind this research is the crayon scratch board drawings they have  been working on with patience and diligence. First they applied crayon on white paper and painted over it with black tempura paint, then scratched the paint off with a wooden skewer to create lines, shapes, patterns, and textures. The tedious crayon work was rewarded with the thrill of finding the glowing color underneath the black paint.

More of these will be posted soon as many drawings are still in progress. When we finish with this project the 1/2 grade classes will begin exploring color, and the 3/4 students will begin paper dioramas to illustrate the Odyssey. Each child is creating an image of a different scene from this wonderful story, and they will be photographed and assembled into a book.
