You might notice a bird migration overhead in the lunch/art room!
Carol Akerlof from the Bird Center of Washtenaw County brought a pigeon named Cloud in for the students to study and draw in preparation for making the birds. Cloud is a calm, thirteen year old pigeon (equivalent to 130 years in human terms!) who patiently modeled for the children as Carol passed on information she has gleaned over the years at the bird rescue center.
It is interesting to see the variety in the drawings. Each student's perception was different even though they were viewing the same bird.
The students constructed the birds out of paper, that they stapled, stuffed, and painted with tempera paint.
The kids LOVED this, Tracy! thanks!
